Getting started

Setup wizard and license

Your first visit to /admin, the setup code and activating your license.

The first time you open /admin (for example https://nube.example.com/admin), KumoYami shows a setup wizard. It only appears while there's no admin password yet.

The setup code

So that nobody else can set up your site before you do, the wizard asks for a code that KumoYami writes to the server logs when it starts. The installer shows it when it finishes; if you don't have it to hand, run this in the install folder:

docker compose logs web | grep -i código

On a NAS, look for it in the container's logs: it's the line that reads «Código de configuración inicial» (the initial setup code).

The wizard's steps

Enter the code

The one from the server logs.

Choose the panel password and the site name

The password protects /admin; make it a long one. The name is what shows in the browser tab and the top bar, and you can change it later under Appearance.

Activate your license

Paste your license key (KY1.…). KumoYami activates it with licencias.kumoyami.com and ties it to this install.

With ADMIN_PASSWORD in .env there's no wizard

If you set ADMIN_PASSWORD in .env, log in with it straight away: no code needed. Until there's a license, the panel only opens the License page, where you paste your key. ADMIN_PASSWORD takes precedence over the password chosen in the panel.

How the license works

  • It renews itself every day, over an outbound connection to https://licencias.kumoyami.com. The license server only receives the install's ID, its version and its domain.
  • Offline, it stays valid for 14 days. If it ever lapsed, the admin panel would be locked, never the public site: your visitors won't notice a thing.
  • Your plan (Personal, Pro or Business) decides which features the panel has. The License page shows what's included; anything that isn't carries the label of the plan that includes it.
  • The updates your license includes are the versions released until the end of its update period. After that, your site keeps running its version. See Updating.
  • A new key (for example, when you extend your updates or change plan) goes in License → Replace the key. Run docker login again with it too.

Access to the panel

In the panel's Account tab you can change the password, add a second step with an authenticator app (with recovery codes), add passkeys and sign out your other sessions. Passkeys only work on the domain where they were created.

  • Forgot the password? Set one in ADMIN_PASSWORD in .env and run docker compose up -d: it takes precedence over the panel's.
  • Lost your second step (no phone, no recovery codes)? Add KUMOYAMI_RESET_2FA=1 to .env and run docker compose up -d. On start-up it removes the authenticator app, the codes and the passkeys, signs out every session and records it in the activity log. Then remove the variable and run docker compose up -d again.
